Default 08 impala gear indicator

On my dashboard of my 2008 Impala LT where my gear indicator is
P R N [D] 3 2 1 there should be a box around which gear my car is in. Well, recently that box disappeared. Also, to check some of your settings like oil life the car has to be in park or it will say " Feature available in park". I continue to get this message even while the car is in park ever since the box disappeared.

Do you have a floor or column shift? My Tahoe started to have the same problem, if the shifter lever on the column did not return to the rest position after shifting I had the problem. When you shift out of park you pull the lever towards you. Returning to Park, I ended up pushing the lever away from me when in the park position. Maybe it was a switch going bad, but it has been working.

Hi 08impala! Does the Feature Settings still show once you shift out of Park? Usually if the Feature Settings Menu is not available, FEATURE SETTINGS AVAILABLE IN PARK will display. Your dealership may be able to verify whether or not this has anything to do with the box disappearing from the gears. If you'd like to private message us your VIN and contact information we can work on looking more into this for you.
