Default Gear Ratio Question

I'm trying to figure out what my gear ratio is....93 Cheyenne 1500 extended cab stepside 4x4....The sticker in the doorjam doesn't say and the sticker in the glovebox is all rotted away. If it helps any, I have the 14 bolt rear end. How can I figure out my ratio? What would be the normal stock ratio? I don't think my truck has the towing package on it either.

You could jack the rear of the truck up off the ground and put the truck in neutral and spin the drive shaft if the drive shaft truns almost 3.5 times you have 3.42 if it turns about 3.75 tiems you have 3.73 and if it turns just over 4 times you have 4.10 and the wheels should only turn once

another way is to pop the cover off and count the teeth, divide the ring gear from the pinion and its just that easy, it probably needs new oil anyway

Actually it doesn't need new oil. I just spent quite a bit on Lucas for it about a month ago and put it in....I think I'll go with the jackstand idea. seems easier.

very true, but if you are still uncertain you can always do that or give your vin to the dealer, they should be able to tell you

Might not be stock gears though on the side of your ring there should be a number stamped. If you take the cover off let me know what it says. There is not a tag on the rear pig?

When driving 60 miles per hour, what are you revving at??

1500rpms= 3:42 Gears
2000rpms= 3:73 Gears
2500rpms= 4:10 Gears

I'm assuming you have a tachometer though... My 92 doesn't!

2000 RPMs sounds about right, but I don't have a factory tach. There is an aftermarket one that was there when I bought the truck, but its not very reliable....it tends to jump around a lot and give bogus readings. According to the tach, my idle jumps between about 150 rpms and 1800 rps.....

I don't have factory size tires, so that would change my rpms at different speeds right? I have 33" tires
