Default grinding gears

Hello All.
newbie here! Just looked at a 96 Silverado 5 speed to buy. the gears grind shifting from 2nd to 3rd. and all the way down from 5th to first when shifting down. I know enough to guess this is a syncro issue. What kind of repair bill am i looking at. Incidently she has a hurst shift kit too.

Thanks to all who reply!

depending on the extent of the damage you may be better off buying a good used trans.
i rebuild mitsubish manual transmissions every day, its not JUST the syncros that need replaced. once a gear has been ground on for so long, the gear itself, sliders, and forks usually get destroyed in the process.
along with needing bearingsand alot of other parts while your in there.
A couple grand for a proper rebuild isnt out of the question, and its been my experience that normally you cant get very many new parts for getrag transmissions, they make the GM truck 5 speeds and mitsu 3000gt / stealth and evo 6 speed, none of which we can get many parts for.

now that im thinking about it, i belive those are a New Venture 3500..(made by getrag) at least thats what my 92 5 spd 2wd had. if its a 3/4 ton it may have a different cast iron case trans, not sure if those are borg warner or still the NV transmissions.
If you like the truck and its in good shape it could be worth finding another transmission for it, just remember they do not take regular gear oil, GL-5 gear oils are acidic to the brass syncros. that could be what happened to the one in the truck now, alot of people make that mistake.

Without actually looking at athe gearbox housing and trying to identify it. iam guessing it is a Getrag. It appears from some of the research i have done it could be an HM-290 or a 5LM60. Is it possible to swap this gearbox out for a rebuilt NV3500?
