Have a 02 1500 z71.
When I have the truck in 2h its fine. When in auto 4wd Im getting a soft grinding noise from the front. Seems to be louder when in a turn or when accelerating. Also get this noise when in 4wd. Anyone know what this could be? I thought it might be the CV Axles but they look fine. They also should be spining with the wheels regardless of the drive selection so I would get the noise in 4 or 2 wd. Could it be bearings in the front diff even though that should always be turning to? Is the front diff under a different kind of load when in Auto4wd?

I had a 02, 2500hd that did the same thing, the dealer had to replace the whole front diff, they said the factory over tightened something and it was not repairable. Thank goodness they covered it. I dont know if you have the same front diff. But you might be able to get the dealer to help cover some of the cost if thats what your problem is.

I took it up yesterday and they told me that it was just the bearings. I looked at the R&P gears and they looked fine. Took out extended warrenty when I bought it and they said it was covered.
