Default Help an old schooler out

I want to put a new exhaust system on my 2001 5.3 Silverado. I see and hear all the stuff about cat back systems. The early 70s were my teen years and everything had true duals. I just don't see how a cat back system can touch a true dual as far as performance increase, I have no experience with these can someone enlighten me please.

ok, here goes. true duals work great for carbed motors cause there isn't a computer reading the exhaust and emissions. the epa decided that cat converters were needed to help reduce emission output, along with computer and sensors to gain optimum exhaust burn, emissions. most computers are sensitive enough to detect when there is no cat converter present, thus interpreting that there is a problem, setting off the check engine light, and sometimes putting the computer into a "limp" mode. carbed motors don't have the emissions control, or near the extent of control, so if you eliminate the cats and run true duals, it, nor any computer used, doesn't know the difference. you can run duals on computer motors, but you still need cats, tho there are high flow cats available that are virtually unrestrictive. basically, the cats are necessary for the computer, eliminate the computer, you can eliminate the cats. tho the epa, and inspection stations, may not like you for it. hopefully some of this makes sense to ya.

stock cats are extremely restrictive, but aftermarket cats are not, so running duals with high flow cats opens the exhaust up dramatically, allowing alot more power to be made. combine that with cold air intake, a custom tune to the computer (blackbear performance is tops there) and you can make some good power.
