Help! Problem with 2004 Silverado rear bumper removal
I am trying to replace my old rusty bumper on my chevy silverado 1500. All the bolts came out easy enough on the frame brackets BUT... The offset on the brackets will not fit past the truck bed! There are two "cutouts," one on each side where the frame brackets come through but there is about a 1/2 inch of clearance missing. It looks like I will need to lift the bed up just to remove the bumper! Has anyone run into this? How did you deal with it?
Problem solved! Here is what I did in case someone else runs into this. I Loosened the four rear bolts that hold the bed to the frame. Loosened about 3/4" or so but not all the way out. I then used a floor jack with a piece of 4x4 timber about 18" long. Placed the timber under the bed near where the loosened bolt is. Then jacked up the bed enough to pull the bracket out. I did one side at a time but if you have two jacks you could lift both sides at once and then pull the bumper out.
