In reference to your advice about transmissions, I have been told that if you have never changed your trans fluid in the past on a silverado with over 100,000 mi. that it is not a good idea to start changing the fluid because that can cause the tranny to go bad because of all the grinded up and loose particles that have accumulated in the tranny over the years.. Is that true? or have you ever heard of such a claim?

I have a question. I noticed you your comment to people about starting their own thread when they make a comment under someone else's thread, what do you mean by that. I'm new to CF.

Default 2007 silverado classic

i have a 2007 silverado classic that i bought about 7 months ago for 8 thousand its a black 1500 no dents everything is in excellent condition inside and out. it had 147,000 miles on it .it looked and ran so nice i had to buy it.but after i wondered if the mileage was alittle too high and thats why the price was so low.well after i took the chance and bought it i took it to a master mechanic and told me that i got a steal of a buy being it was only 4 yrs old .he told me that as long as i took care of the engine properly that it would make 300,000 miles easy .told me that its not like the 50's or 60's when 125,000 miles and it was time for a overhaul.said now they build them so less carbon comes from them which makes the motor last 2-3times longer,so by me going with my gut it seems i got a hella of a good deal .it has 155,000 miles on it now and i'm in love with that truck that thing is gorgeous, and plan on having it for a very very long time.

Contrary to popular belief planned obsolescence is not designed into these vehicles. Under normal use, scheduled maintenance and replacement of worn parts should allow a truck to run indefinitely.

Mileage is an issue if you plan on trading or selling a truck. Fortunately, with the exception of maintenance monitoring systems, the vehicle itself has no idea how many miles are on the odometer.

Chevy runs deep!

Thumbs up

I have a 2008, 102000 on it, other than a wiring problem, and bad design from the fuel control module, this truck runs like a beast. It is a 1500, ext cab, 5.3L, 3" body lift, 4" suspension lift, change the oil every 4-5000, full synthetic. Never did anything with tranny, brake fluids. I have had no problems and fully expect to get another 100,000 easily. I just changed plugs and wires, original serp belt, 2 nd set of tires, did brakes all around, new rotors and drums, hardware kit etc. Change air filter about every 30,000, and all seems fine......like said earlier, love your truck and she'll love ya back!!

My 98 Silverado v6 has 276,000 miles on it. It will still drive and run as long as you don't push it, buts it has to many problems for one to fix and make worth it. It has been an awesome truck though. It was just not maintained before I got it so the problems stacked up very quickly. It was a "run it to the ground" truck for the previous owner.....I just happened to finish it off.

Default 200,000+

Got my truck from my grandpa when I turned 16. It had 130,000 when he gave it to me. Now I'm 25 and my 97' C1500 has 227,000 miles on it and runs great. Going through HS and then college, I didn't spend the money on the maintance it deserved, yet everyday I go outside and it starts up and takes me where I need to go. Me and the wife just bought a new car, we had a VW with less than 100,000 miles and the truck with 227,000; well we decided to get rid of the VW and keep the truck. I want to keep it forever.

I am glad to read all the post about these trucks I was always scared to take on long trips because I thought it could break down. if I get 300,00 I would be grateful the old man who owned it kept all records.

Default Long lasting chevy

expect a lot of miles out of your truck. With a little bit of maintenance I have put 611,000 miles on it and counting.

Default 200,000 miles would cost me $81,000. 2011 Silverado.

200,000 miles on my 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 4.3L V6, 4spd automatic would cost me $81,000 because this piece of sh** gets only 8.65 miles per gallon and my dealer and GM say that nothing is wrong with it.
