Default Check Engine light from Park Assist

Hello. I just bought a 2013 Silverado LTZ yesterday. I have been a chevy guy since my first Nova at 16. But i hate this truck. Too many damn sensors and warnings and problems. On the way to work i got the message "Park Assist Blocked". No problem i shut if off anyway because i know how to drive. I cleared the message because it was just due to snow. ( i live in Alberta so im not going to clean the damn bumper every day). A few miles down the road and my check engine light comes on! I've had this Truck 24 hours and it was a certified used truck. The guy at Chevy says it will go off on it's own and the park assist turned it on. I don't believe him because the check engine light is for emissions and drive train. Taking it in on Saturday. Please help. Has this happened to anyone? Im ready to give it back and buy something else.

A million things can cause a check engine light; it could be as simple as a loose fuel filler cap. Last time my truck threw a code, it was a bad purge solenoid. A $20 part that I bought at an auto parts store that took me 15 minutes to replace myself.

"Too many damn sensors and warnings and problems." Really? One little thing goes wrong and you're ready to dump it? Sounds like you're better off going back to an early 70s Nova. It won't have any of those new-fangled computer gizmos and doohickeys.

Thanks man. I know im over reacting lol. But i just got it. I would have got an older truck, but I couldn't find one in decent shape. Im really not a fan of most of the new Tech, but do love the look and interior. I will see what the code is soon. My question still is if the park assist could trigger the check engine light as the chevy guy said?

no park assist won't turn on a check engine light, sadly most service writers even at dealers don't know the difference between a lug nut and spark plug

ya I agree all the indicators and messages can be annoying but they're put there for a reason, to help things get attended to before bigger issues arise.

Thanks man. I didn't think park assist could turn on a check engine light. My worry is that the dealership cleared a code without fixing the problem and then sold it to me. I am buying a scan tool after work to see if there are history codes. If the problem is not covered under my warranty i will be trading it in.

if its a gm certified used truck i'm sure they will fix it. If its just amvic certified it may not be.

bring it back and give them a chance to correct the issue. Salesmen know little about fixing cars.

What gm dealer? I am from AB
