I posted this in another area of the forum earlier and I believe that was the wrong place, I apologize if I'm not supposed to do this but I didn't think anyone was going to look at it where it was.


Hi guys I'm new to this forum, hope you can help with this issue.

1992 GMC Sierra
4.3L v6 TBI

I recently had to remove my intake manifold due to an oil leak at the back seal. Went quite smoothly other than the fact that once together and started up, I noticed this annoying ticking noise that's even audible from inside the cab. Let me state that this noise did not exist before I pulled the intake. I've almost surely narrowed down the cause to the injectors.

I have a few questions. Someone at work today told me that I might have caused this by having the intake upside down to clean the mating surface. I've heard that you shouldn't turn a carb upside down but never an injected throttle body. Is there any validity to this theory?

Also, regardless of how the issue was caused, do you have any suggestions on how I can alleviate the noise? This is driving me CRAZY!

Hello I wanted to let you know that you are not alone! I have a 1994 Silverado pickup with a 5.7 engine. I too had the intake manifold off to repair the heater hose quick disconnect. everything went back together just fine and when i started it up i had the same ticking noise that you do! it definately sounds like the injectors. I had my intake upside down to clean the gasket surfaces which is what i think caused it to happen. I still havent fixed the problem due to the fact that the truck runs fine and the injectors are aprox $80 each. If you get yours to stop please let me know.

 

I did fix it! It turned out to be the fuel lines vibrating against the bottom of the cab! I guess I pulled it tight while re-installing it in the intake. Hope you have the same problem because it was really easy to fix I just got under the truck and pulled the fuel line away from the cab floor lol :P

 

Thanks you for getting back to me! I have heard others say the same thing about the fuel lines vibrating on the cab which would explain the noise being louder in the cab. I just had minor surgery and havent got back under to check it out. I will definately let you know asap. Thanks once again!
