Default intermediate steering

2004 1500 5.3L I have the proverbial thump in the steering. What is a ease fix & can I do it . I used to be a Master mechanic back when you took a part off and actually fixed it not replace it. ( 50 series Flow master CAT back coming out the right side BAD *** sound. CAI. ) I'm waiting on my headers. Any help out there would be appreciated.

Is it when you turn a certain direction or both ways? Could be ball joints, tie rods, center shaft. if there is play in any of the steering components it's gonna make noise but it helps to know when it's making the noise.

The latest intermediate shaft that works (I've had one in for over two years with no issues) is part# 19153614.

Now sometimes its also the plastic bushing in the steering tube that the shaft sticks in. The original bushing is white. There is a revised bushing that is blue that is improved. It is part # 88963617.
