Default Intermediate steering shaft replacement

I have a 2005 Monte Carlo that I bought new. It is out of warranty but only 20,000 miles. The ISS is making noise at slow speeds. I think a lot of Chevys have this problem. The GM warranty tech support says they might fix it under warranty, but I have to take it to a dealer and have it "diagnosed'.That will cose $105 and Gm "might" fix it free, but of course no guarantee of this. I know what the problem is and I think they do too, but won't admit it, of course. Typical GM run around. I'm a loyal Gm customer too, never will own a Toyota. I've got 5 GM cars right now. I'm thinking of replacing it myself. NAPA makes a good one I think. Does anyone know how to replace the ISS? I'm a good mechanic and do most of my own work on all my cars. Any help will be appreciated.
