In my experience, should doesn't always mean does. Whenever they do service like that, ask them to put the old filter in a bag and give it to you... then just throw it away when you get home

 

i always do the cheap and simple, i felt laking power in my 97 and i have a 350 in it, all i did was change the oil, new spark plug wires, new spark plugs, and cleaned my cold air intake filter and she was banging like a champ
