Hi grubbs11,
Welcome to the Chevy Forums.
Castrol made it's bones in the more spartan Motorcycle market before broadening it's horizons to the Automotive industry, Ergo, it's a surprisingly good, if lesser-known brand of lubrication.
I've done considerable research, and it appears that the tick you refer to is a relatively harmless noise for which the Vortec V8s have become somewhat unfortunately legendary.
If MDTAHOE endorses the BG oil flush, I'd go with it.

my 2000 model 350 engine started that tic noise at about 75K, at the next oil change i added 1 qt of lucas oil stabilizer and noise when away.
i use valvoline 10w30 oil and wix oil filters.
truck has 90K on it now and no tic noise. I have always used valvoline oil so the only change was adding lucas oil stabilizer.
i have friends who own large over the road trucks and would never let you change oil in those vehicles with out adding 1 gal of lucas, but some think both lucas and seafoam are snake oil.
i use both products in my old chevy truck and it runs like a top.
