Default light switch

Hello to all! I am a new member and am trying out my first posting. I saw a similar post about a problem with the brake light switch after installing a new brake booster. The switch on my 95 Silverado is located on the shaft the brake rod attaches. After I put my clip back on the shaft (about an hour). I noticed the switch pivots on the shaft. If you rotate the switch it will actually snap on the rod. Now this is the part I don't understand. My brain tells me that when it snaps on it should work fine. Not true. When it is not snapped in it works fine. I guess I could just let it be but I am curious now.....any input would be appreciated...thanks
