Default Looking To Buy A 8.1L

Hey guys. Im making the switch to Chevy and have been very interested in the 8.1L. Iv found one that fits the bill perfectly. Before I buy it, I want some consumer reviews.

Iv looked up power and these things are MEAN! 455 ft lbs is insane! Mileage wise, I asked my buddy what his dads 2500 crew cab with the 8.1 gets and he says he pulled a trailer and got 17.

So basically what do you owners think of your trucks?

By the way, the truck Im looking at is a 2001 3500HD ST, dually, reg cab long bed, 4 wheel drive.

IMO get the duramax, you will save so much money on fuel in the long run.

In real life, you're gonna see about 7 mpg and then painfully learn the meaning of the word anemic.

As always, just by 2¢

Getting 17MPG, he must be going down hill with a tail wind. I have a 2001 2500Hd 4x4 w/ 8.1 and allison trans. My best mileage is around 10to 11 and thats not hauling my 5Th Wheel, with the 5th I get around 7 maybe 8. I love my truck and the power it has, so either you get a truck with good mileage or one with power if staying with a gas unit. A diesel rig is the way to go but the expense is terrible if something breaks.

Tell me about it... My last truck was a 7.3L. It'll take some heavy considering to get another diesel
