Hey, just had my new tires put on. The guy that installed them told me to keep the tire pressure at 55psi. The tire pressure now is 51 on both fronts and 50 on the back. How or why am I losing this air on new tires (not even a month old)? Please help, I was considering nitrogen but I'm unsure.

 

Tire pressure will vary as much as 10 psi depending on tempreature. Not to memtion the differences in tire gauges.

I'd fill them up and use the same air gauge all the time. One gauge might be a couple of pounds off from actual but that's not as important as keeping them all even. 55 LBS on one gauge might only be 52 LBS on another. In my opinion, and it's just mine, a couple of pounds doesn't make much difference as long as they are even and checked with the same gauge. You might also want to check the temp outside when you are checking the tires just to see how much difference the temps are when you are checking tire pressure. I've heard that 10 degrees will make one pound of difference in pressure. Not sure how much that's true but like the previous commenter said, temp does make a difference. It's also my belief that tires will lose pressure over time. Nitrogen has larger molecules so it doesn't leak out as fast. I'm not sure about the price as I've never checked and I have an air compressor in my garage.
