Default Low Coolant Light

I have a 2001 Silverado with the 4.8 liter V8 (170,000 miles). Recently the "Low Coolant" light has been coming on once and a while. I have no coolant leak, and the engine is not burning any coolant. I know that because the coolant level is full. Any ideas on why the "Low Coolant" light keeps coming on?

Thank you

It could be a faulty sensor, a sticking float or a shorted or bare wire touching something.

oldchevy, thank you for the reply. Where is this "sensor" you are referring too?

located on the bottom of coolant reservoir. A new reservoir with sensor run around $40, just search E-bay for your year and model truck

Also if your still running "Dexcool" and the coolant is old, your tank is dirty and brown,it will cause the sensor to mis-read.

Flush the cooling system and switch to good ole "Prestone green stuff" to prevent further problems.
