2002 GMC Sierra 1500 2WD

Had a new Trow out bearing and clutch assembly done at 86k. I just picked this truck up and it needs 2nd gear fixed. wont engage all the time. rest of the gears seem fine.

should i junk the whole thing and buy a rebuild for $900

rebuild my own for $250

or find a crashed truck from a junk yard and gamble.

any other tricks you guys know?

If i do a rebuild i hear that the NV 3500 isnt the most friendly.

 

Might just be the sycronizer gear, but depending on alot of things, i.e. need it running, need tooling, the rebuild if reputable, might be the best.

 

forgot to add it rattles like crazy so i'd more than just the gear.

 

Say you have a core for a replacement then.

 

any chance it could be a shifter issue and not the transmission. is there an adjustment anywhere for the stick. It is only 2nd thats not working but it works sometimes. however it dies vibrate a lot all the time

just trying to cover everything

 

Theres shims in the tranny, but nothing to adjust. Is this a 3 speed or a 4 speed truck tranny?
