My son just recently bought a super clean 1987 1500 4x4 with 305 v8,4 speed tranny and I would think 3.07 axles,but I have not checked yet.It also has 33" tires.It is very tight in the steering,rust free frame and very nice interior other than the worn seat.It is kinda doggy with the wide spaced gearing and possibly tall axle gearing.I was thinking of helping him putting in a more usable 5 spd and going to 4.10 axles.Is a newer 5 spd with OD doable for this truck ? He plans on keeping the truck because of its condition so a bit a cash is not too much of a problem.Any help would be appreciated.
