Default need exhaust for an 86

hey everybody, i have a old school chevy silverado 1986 silverado k30 with a 454.

i want to find a good exhaust to put on it i have heard good reviews about borla, also there is a local company called magnaflow i believe,

doubt anyone is familier with that unless they are from the north bay area.

any suggestions? any clue as to what kind of price range i should be expecting?

i would prefer to do all the installation myself.

thank you everyone for your time. -Dave

first things first very nice ride you have there, and welcome...

borla iv'e hard of but not on fullsize chevys, im sure alot of folks have them though,as for magnaflow im pretty sure that most people have heard of there product even if there not from the north bay...there are alot of bolt on kits and that sounds like what you are looking @.if installing it youself make sure to get a high flowing cat converter and you could opt for 3" pipe(mandrel bent) running back from the manifolds..for mufflers that's up to you,i run the 40 series flows on my 350 and they are loud(i must be old)...i had my system ran from the manifolds back with 3" and high flow cat and flows with a fancy chrome tip and it ran around 600..

ohh im from the northbay as well......where you @ in the nb

yes keep that truck going brother, does the truck have headers?sometimes it's easier and quicker to run to a shop and have them do it but it will be expensive.Espically for high flow cat and 3" mandrel bent piping....

im in napa....were neighbors...have any pics of your ride?

when i did my exhaust, i put on a super 40 flowmaster muffler w/ cutoffs. cost a little over 300. you dont necessarily need 3" all the way. 2-1/2 is plenty big enough since trucks usually go single in dual out. are you planning on all the way to the back with tips?

i will take a picture of the engine bay in a bit, so you can see more of what i am dealing with.

i have an uncle in napa, and go over that way fairly frequently we`ll have to meet up some time. -Dave

i`m guessing i have what is referred to as "true dual exhaust" cause, the exhaust`s from the back clear up to where the manifold bolts on they never touch...

i want whats best... this truck is a project i wanna go over the top with.

Shouldn't be hard to price out a decent system with a 454 duel exhaust.

autopartswarehouse.com
Walkerexhaust.com
JEGS.com
discountexhaustsystems.com
summitracing.com
autobarn.net
holley.com
maybe even chuckstrucks...

sooo a good friend of mine and big big truck owner told me about a place in santa rosa that he had his exhaust custom built at called johnny franklins they do flowmaster and magnaflow so i`m going to go down there and see what they have to say.

seams like some people get the exhause more for the sound than performance... i`m definetly more interested in performance.
