Need a MPFI conversion kit!
my 96 vortec took a BIG DUMP on me last week and now im stuck with a possible injector leak or fuel press. reg. problem. I don't know which one it is so im considering to just change the whole shabang. I found that a couple people went for changing the cpfi to a mpfi and need some advice from the experts. So I ask you where and how much would i find the mpfi and also if its worth it. Or even if this is the problem or not because im confused! my mechanic plugged in his computer diagnostic thing and it said that everything was running top notch! but when i drive, my engine starts to jolt a little and can smell rich fuel mixture. please help i dont want to lose my baby!

uh, no, it's not. there is a "spider" unit that converts the stock cpi unit to an actual mpi unit. it relocates the actual injector to the heads instead of middle of intake. i've done this on my 98 tahoe. the kit can be had for about $300-$350, requires a couple hours for the average mechanic. nothing complicated or hard. basically, the upper plenum comes off, take out stock spider unit, install new one. put it back together. that's the basics.
BWD part number 63886, which is available online and most auto parts stores.

this is the BWD unit, which the Delphi company makes. this is the same one as AC Delco offers.
