Default Noob Question

How do I find out exactly what my truck is. Ie. Z71, 350 or 305, keyless? all the options and stuff just bought the truckand love it but know nothing about it really yet.

Before I get flammers saying why buy a truck and not know what it is, i got a steal on it and couldnt turn it down

Its is not easy to tell a 350 from a 305, also you did not give the year of the truck which would help me.. Get the truck vin number, search on the internet for free vin check, and it will give you the basics about the truck. 305 block is stamped in the rear of the engine near fire wall and is extremely hard to see, but you can pull the breather off and try to stick your head back there with a flash light to see it (it will have 305 stamped on the block under oil sensor below intake, it is stamped in the block in that location).

Also the vin check will tell you what engine come in the truck, but that don't mean some one did not change it out.

P.S; might have to spry carb cleaner back there since I'm sure it will be covered with oil.

Hi homicydalboy,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

Go into your glovebox. Find the sticker marked "Service Parts Identification"

On this sticker you will find @Forty (40) three digit alpha-numeric codes.

(Example "Z71")-These are Regular Production Ordering(RPO) codes.

These codes will define all the options the truck originally went from the

Factory to the Dealer with.

The decodes are all here, and at other places on Google.

Example Z71=Chassis Package: Off road.

Enjoy the Holidays!
