Default Oil Dipstick

I purchased a 2022 Sileverado 2500 HD, 6 liter gas engine. When I use the dipstick to check the oil level, the flat side with the cross hatching always indicates over-filled but the backside (rounded side with no lines) shows the oil level below minimum. I have checked dozens of times with a hot engine (15 minutes after stopping), warm engine ( an hour or two after stopping), a cold engine after being off for a day or two both after a few thousand mile or immediately after an oil change. Regardless, every time one side indicates overfilled while the other side indicates below min. Does the oil wick itself up the cross hatching and provide an inaccurate overfilled reading? Does the backside repel oil and read inaccurately low? I have used the owners manual suggested oil. It would be nice to operate the engine with the proper oil level. I would appreciate any advice.

sometimes you have to keep dipping and wiping until you get a clear reading.
I think the back of the stick is more accurate though.
