i have a 99 1500 silverado Z71 and i run 10/30 mobil 1 full synthetic and have friends that do the same. I have stronger oil pressure when changed comes out looking good. You should have no problem running a heavier oil.

Your good to go. The reason for the 5 wieght is due to cold climates. If you don't have that problem it's ok.

You'll be totally fine.

If you live in a colder climate you may want to consider switching to 5w30 during the winter months, its easier on the engine when you have to cold start.

I use 5w30 Mobil-1 in my '04 Silverado, and it works just fine. During the coldest nights (yes, it does get cold in VA) and the hottest summer days, it does just fine.

If you use a good quality oil and change it often enough, either 5w30 or 10w30 should serve you well. Oh...don't forget to change the filter EVERY TIME you change the oil. Not doing so is like taking a shower and putting on dirty underwear.
