I have a 96 z71 with a 5.7 vortec engine.Check engine light is on so i took it to ABC abd the computer showed piston #5 misfire.Runs kinda rough when idling.Other than that cant really tell anything is wrong.What should i check?

 

I had a similar deal with my 96 5.0 . With a lot of discussion and process of elimination- tune up, compresion check, fuel pressure check, and so on it turned out to be a sticking poppett valve on the injection spyder. Make sure the tuneup is good and run a few bottles of Chevron Techtron thur it .Might cure the problem if it's not a burned or sticking valve. If it turnes out to be the spyder an updated version is available on Amazon. Cost is in the $300's. Good luck and keep everyone updated.
