Default Please Help - 20" wheel question on 2011 2500 Suburban

Yep, I know I'm in the wrong forum But I hit a wall in the Burb/Hoe forum and they asked me to check here.

I'm in the proud new owner of a very nice 2011 2500 Suburban. It is totally stock, and has the OEM 17" wheels on it. I want to put 20" wheels on it, and it's not easy to find 20" 8 lug burb wheels. I finally did though... they are MKW 20x9 with a +10 offset. Since it's a 2500, I'm being told by my tire shop (Americas Tire) that I have to put a E tire on it. Their computer told them to run a 285/55/20 E rated tire, and that it would fit. I went with the Nitto Grapplers.

We mounted the wheels and tires and the fronts rubbed on the wheel wells bigtime! I took the burb down the street to a good alignment shop. They lifted the front 1.5" with the torsion adjustment and re-aligned the vehicle. The burb now sits almost level, and I really like the stance. The 285's still rubbed. We then tried a D rated 275/55/20, just for kicks, and it rubbed too.

So here is my question - does anyone here know if 20" wheels can fit a burb like mine with stock suspension (with a 1.5" torsion lift)? I do not want to raise it any higher. I see mom's driving Escalade ESV which is the same body style running 22" wheels all the time. I get that the tire is what's causing the main issue. Do you guys know of a E load tire that will work? Maybe I need a wheels with or less offset?

Basically I've hit a roadblock and need help. Never in a million years would I have thought putting 20" wheels on a 2011 2500 suburban would be such a challenge.

Thanks in advance!

275/45r20 is 2" smaller diameter than the 275/55R20
How much more room do you need?

2" should do it. But I looked online and couldn't find an E rates tire in that size.

I don't think you are going to find a tire with that kind of load rating in that size, the problem is you virtually have no rubber between the rim and tread, so to have that ratting they would almost be solid rubber.
You could use the p tire as long as you were not towing and loading the tuck (but i didn't just say that) not sure of the legalities of that in your area the choice is yours. I would recommend you find a smaller rim and put on the tire rated for your vehicle.

When manufacturers install certain size tires on specific vehicles with a particular purpose (as in HD trucks), it is done for a reason. Ironically, most HD trucks have 16-inchers these days and plenty of half-ton trucks (such as my Silverado 1500) have 17", 18" or even 20-inch rims as factory equipment.

For instance, my 2007 International 8600 road tractor at work has 22.5" rims and 11R22.5 tires on it - but they are far different in design and purpose than the similarly-sized "dubs" you sometimes see on cars or pickup trucks.

I wish you luck in finding the right tire for your big Suburban.
