Default power steering

i have a 2001 chevy silverado 2wdtruck and i recently had it stuck in the snow. i was able to get it out but as soon as i did i lost my power steering. i checked my fluid level and it was bone dry. so i got some fluid and filled it up. after filing it up i still dont have p/s. im not a mechanic so does anybody have a suggestion for me that i could do by myself without taking it to the shop?
thank you

did you check the fluid after filling it upand starting it? probably empty again. I'll bet you pulled a hose when you got it stuck

yes i checked the fluid after starting it and it is still full. do you think i need to bleed the system? there are no leaks anywhere that i can see.

Check the fluid. I think the problem is there.

Assuming you have all the hoses hooked up, and no leaks, what I've done in the past which worked was to go to an empty level lot and do a slow, tight figure eight in one direction, then the other.Check your fluid again. Sometimes this works the fluid into the system. Otherwise it may need to be bled.

It's always a golden rule if you run something that has a pump to bleed the system but it if sucked up air then then it is still there. The fluid had to go somewhere.... check the system it isnt to hard to follow and if you can park it on cement or pavement over night check for leaks even a small drop.
