Power Steering Gear Assembly
I have an 07 classic Z71 crew cab with some power steering problems. GM just replaced the gear assembly for the power steering. I am no mechanic so I’m asking, is the gear assembly within the power steering pump or is that part of some other hardware?
I still have a hissing sound and think the pump is bad or perhaps the lines have some resistance. Any thoughts?

The power steering gear is the part that the steering colum goes to. The lines off the power steering also go to it to give you your assisted steering. If you have a hissing sound it may be air in the system from the steering gear being replaced. If it was doing it before it is more than likely your pump.
