Question on when I can wax my new truck
Hi All,
I just picked up my new Silverado on Friday 8/5. I washed it today and noticed a few light scratches on the passenger side door. What I was wondering is - do I have to wait a certain amount of time before I can wax the truck and also what would be a good wax/polish to use on the light scratches. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Prubably nufinish, mothers, or anything else with carnauba wax in it.
As long as the scratch is only in the clear coat it should take care of it

First lets under stand what different products do. Wax only provides a coat of protection,it does little to remove scratches or "swirls". You need a scratch or swirl remover for this. Meguires makes a good product for this. Then wax over this. We would all like a " one size fits all" but it dont work that way. As far as when,, in the old enamel days paint needed time to "cure" with todays clear coat that no longer is an issue.

the best thing to do which i've done and had great results. Wash your truck and make sure its completely dry and use a rubbing compound( best used with buffer) and if you want your truck to look great do the whole truck. Wash again to remove all left over compound and residue. then use a wax(meguiars) and do that. The scratch should be gone and your truck will look great. and yes it takes a long time

Well, I got lucky today. I had my truck in the shop getting a Line-X bed liner. There was a detailing guy there and I told him about my scratches. He fixed them for free, just to introduce himself. He said that I would probably get more scratches seeing as this is a black truck. This was his way of introducing himself to me. He said to keep him in mine for future scratches on the truck.
