Default rear end

I went to have my truck OBD'd and the guy said that my rear end was going. I have never dealt with them and dont want to haha..I have a 1995 chevy 2500 6.5 turbo diesel....long bed. I was wondering what to look for as well as if I could do it myself or with someones help. Thanks again guys

Did the guy give you a logical explanation for why your rear end is 'going'?

Look for a whining sound while you are driving. The best way to check that is have someone follow you close and listen for you, unless the sound is so pronounced that you can hear it yourself.

I have had the "clunk" on amost every truck i have ever owned. Has always been there even since new. Unless there is something you/he has noticed other than the noise there should be nothing wrong. In my 2006 i hear the noise in every shift from park whether i'm on a hill or not, same with my 2007 also...

What is up with that? All the chevys I've owned have done it also. But, as far as the rear end goes, you should definitely hear a howling noise if it's going. I took the 97 yukon I had in because of the "clank" and was told my rear end was going out as well. I had a mechanic friend of mine take the entire rear end apart and it was perfect. It would make the noise when shifting from 2nd to 3rd (automatic). He said take it to a transmission place. Did that and nothing wrong with the transmission. I think it's a chevy thing.

my 96Z does the same thing from 2nd to 3rd and from reverse to drive. I keep thinking it U-joints but it sounds deeper, like something internal.
