Default Remove OnStar 2011 Silverado

I need information please.
We just purchased a new 2011 Silverado from Smedleys Chevrolet in Vandalia OH.
The agreement was, they would remove the OnStar Module. We signed the papers, Paid for the truck. Few days later, they said,"We can disable it, but we cannot remove it."
I said," Keep the truck & refund my money." They said," We are not Kmart, we do not do refunds."

So, I need to know how to tell if they have really disabled the OnStar completely or not.

I pick up the truck on Monday.

I wanted to warn others about this dealership.
Beware, the people I had dealings with did a bait & switch with me.

I hope someone can help me. Thanks

I don't know where you live but I would contact the Atorney Generals office in your state.

Don't take the truck off the lot until this is resolved. If the truck is financed there is a 3 day right of reversal on the contract...I think this is a Federal law.

Ok, I gotta ask first. Why do you want OnStar removed?

You're being really silly here.

Of course they can't 'remove' it. They are a certified dealership.

If you really want to disable that thing dead in the water, drop the headliner a wee bit and just unhook the antenna.

I'm not sure that disconnecting the antenna is enough. I do know that people have been listened into through onstar through the radio. Also, it could have GPS in it that might have it's own antenna. OnStar is Big Brother watching you in action!

I believe you can either disable or remove it. Just disconnecting antenna will disable the GPS/Location info, but not guarentee disabling the cell phone communication. That can still work even with very low signal.

If you wish to disable it, located unit in the trunk and remove the power supply to it. Yes, it has an internal back up battery for settings, but not for active use.

If you wish to remove it, remove all four connectors and physically remove unit.

Disabling may be good enough, and has upside it can be reconnected, in case you want to sell the car later with it intact.

If you have dealership disable it, you can verify by looking at the onstar light on the right of the mirror. It should go out. this disable procedure should not throw any codes onto your other systems.

Good luck

I am not a lawyer, but it sounds like this truck has been misrepresented. I think that you may have legal rights against this dealer. You might call the district attorney's office and see what they tell you.

Good luck:
