Default "Service 4wd" light keeps going on and off on 2000 silverado

The service 4wd light keeps coming on and off. The 4wd itself has been working just fine...switches from 4hi to 4 low and back to 2 hi perfectly. also when im in 2 hi or 4 hi, the light doesn't always stay on. Im hoping it's just the switch....any ideas what possible problems it could be? thanks for the help!

switch. been there on mine. drove around for few moths with toothpick jammed between one of the buttons and housing, as it "fixed" it.
some say, you can take that switch apart, and clean contacts inside with pencil eraser. but you know, for 60 or so bucks and 5 minute job - is it worth it? I had mine replaced at about 48 000 miles, have 127 on it now - still works fine.

yeah, buy one off internet. dealer wants like $170 or so
lower steering wheel all the way down and have gear shifter in the lower most position.
pry plastic trim panel off. I normally start with the left upper corner. takes some tug to start it, then it all goes fine. do one clip at a time.
wrestle panel down and remove switch. plug new in. re-install panel. 5 minutes or so.
