Default just to make sure...

I think I have a similar problem. From a stand still when you take off it seems like something is loose and "shifts" or is loose and it tightens up...it's hard to describe.

Is this the u-joint between driveshaft and rearend or transmission?

No, it's a yoke which supports the driveshaft. It's commonly referred to as a "rag joint".
