Silverado 4.8l to 6.0l Swap "Build Thread"
So after searching the internet, talking to numerous people, and looking through a million forums, I was never able to find any sort of "build thread" outlining a 4.8 to 6.0 engine swap. So I decided to make one, and share my research with others looking to do this sort of thing.
So to begin, after doing more research and talking to more people than the world has to offer, I have made several findings and conclusions. Please note some of these pertain to my 2003 truck, not just any year.
- The 6.0 motor must be in the same year range (2003-2006) in order for the wiring harness and parts to be exactly swappable.
- NO extra parts are needed in order to perform this swap except for the 6.0 motor
- The proper motor for my truck is a 6.0L out of a 2003 Silverado 2500HD
- OPTIONAL parts that I purchased were the short harness, new plugs and wires, water pump, O2 sensors, knock sensors, and of course Mobil 1 Full Synthetic
- The flexplate must be swapped from the 4.8 in order for the 6.0 to fit the 4l60e transmission
- It is recommended that the computer be flashed to run the 6.0 motor, although the engine will run WITHOUT this flash, the ignition timing will be off however
Alright everyone, the time has come. My 6.0 crate motor from GM has arrived this afternoon. I have taken some (crappy) pictures just out of pure excitement. The install will begin Monday morning and is being done by Bohan's Automotive in Canyon Country, CA.
Also I would like to give a HUGE THANKS to Justin over at Black Bear Performance for all of his help and knowledge through this ordeal. He got my PCM done and shipped out the same day I got it! Talk about customer service!
Also a thanks to all the members here on ChevroletForum.com and on GM-Trucks.com for all their help and knowledge!
Hope y'all are as excited as I am!!!!

The total, out the door cost is $5625. But keep in mind I'm not doing the labor, so doing it yourself would be a lot cheaper. And I'm installing a factory GM motor with 0 miles.
Will do. I off-road probably once every two weeks, mostly around my house. I have taken it out to the high desert a few times too.
