Default Smoking Brake

Just serviced brakes, new rotors & pads on all 4 corners, bleed brake system which was like syrup. Took it for a test ride, every thing seemed ok. Next day wife calls me and she advises that the drivers rear brake is smoking and very hot. 2001 1500 silverado, any help would be great, Thanks in advance

parking brake is on, or its mis-adjusted and dragging, the piston has over extended and stuck out, pads are misaligned...
basically you'll need to take it apart to find out for sure....

I dont think the piston is overextended. Because if he put in NEW pads the caliper wouldnt go back on the mounting bracket if the piston was extended. Same with the pads, I dont think the hold down bolts would go back in smoothly. But in any event you will have to disassemble that wheel to see if your wife had left the brake on or if you did the job wrong.

I bet she left the E-brake on.

Update--checked caliper and pads, nothing wrong with assembly, it's when the brakes are applied they don't release and it's occuring on both rear wheels, I suspect that the master cylinder is the problem? Thank you for all coments, the little stuff will hurt you however I didn't let brake fluid get on the pads, the emg. brake isn't the issue---the brakes won't release after application-----

Sounds like sticking in the master cylinder. Replace they are cheap enough.

UP-DATE; Changed out the master cylinder, checked out brakes-----SAME THING----THEY WERE STILL STICKING!!!! OK NOW!!! So now there's only 2 items left to change----the calipers or the ABS or BOTH---well the cheap person I am I opted for the calipers 1st, $32.00 apiece and $30.00 apiece core charge!!! Replaced them both----FINALY WORKS!!!!!! Guess that happens when brake fluid is like syrup!!!!! Thanks to all who tried to help------

somebody did somebody wrong song. Brake fluid shouldnt be syrupy even when its old. Unless someone put another fluid in there...like ATF or clear power steering fluid.
