speaker installation?
Im installing speakers in the doors of my 1999 chevy silverado and i dont have a speaker harness..
What I plan on doing is cutting off the old harness and soldering the bare wire onto the new speakers.. My question is how will I know which
is the positive connection and which is the negative after the harness is gone?I want to get the correct polarity on my new speakers.
thanks..

temporarily hook up a speaker and play some thing with heavy base the cone must move out when the base hits. Also you could get a Haynes manual that should have a wiring diagram in it. If you listen closely when you hook up a speaker and play music then reverse polarity the sound becomes slightly muddled switch it back and for and you can tell by ear when a speaker is in proper phase (polarity) this does not apply to subwoofers as they can be run in any phase depending on enclosure.
From the factory Service Manual. These are for 1999 Silverado.
Left Front SPKR = Gray - / Tan +
Right Front SPKR = Drk Grn - / Lt Grn +
Left Rear SPKR = Yel - / Brn +
Right Rear SPKR = Lt Blu - / Drk Blu +
Hope this helps......
