Default Speedo replacement

OK,I just bought a used cluster and what I want to do isswap the speedo motor (the good one) for the bad one that is in the truck. What I am wondering is how important is it to get the needle mounted on the motor shank in the right place or does the gauge reset it self every time you start the truck? or am I going about it all wrong?Help please.

PS. its a '95 1500 auto-transmission.

Default RE: Speedo replacement

I have found that I can not get the speedo motor out without removing the needle. Has anybody ever done this?
