As stated before, an aftermarket unit is a lot better than an OEM one. How much are the map updates on the OEM unit? Can they be updated? Roads and places change all the time. Garmin offers lifetime map updates for $89.00. Some Garmin units come with life time map & traffic updates and sell for about $129.00.
Can you plan a trip and import it into your OEM unit? You can on a Garmin. There are several sites that let you plan a trip and send it to your Garmin. That's a great advantage if you want to go exploring. Good luck with you project.

There's numerous reasons to upgrade a vehicle to a factory navigation, a Garmin is not answer to this question.

I wanted OEM only as I already have a Garmin. I not only got the OEM unit for the navigation part but the backup camera display, play DVDs to my rear headrest monitors, get weather updates, XM traffic updates, as well with storing my music on the hard drive so I don't have to remember to remove my IPOD or USB stick to use it elsewhere. Don't get me wrong the Garmin is a good unit I just wanted something different and OEM.

I just added OEM Navigation from 2011 to my 2013 Tahoe LT and it was plug and play. It didn't come with nav, but did have Bose. The unit I bought was GM Part #22791907. I also needed the navtraffic receiver which was GM Part #20938348. I got the nav. unit from OEM-GM-Radios over the internet. Works perfect. Unit was brand new. Disc, antenna and everything needed to install. I did a lot of research on this and hopefully it will help others. No issues whatsoever. Everything on the steering wheel works as intended.

Forgot to mention backup camera was changed from the mirror (factory setting) to show on the nav. screen.

Navtraffic receiver GM Part #20938348 is difficult to find. Got it from ISS in Seattle, WA.

I have the OEM nav system in my Prius and my Mercedes. The one for the Silverado trucks is like the Prius where it is centered in the dash and difficult to read while driving. For the truck I use a Garmin instead that sits on top of the dash at close to eye level.

There are also clips available so a GPS can be attached to the rear view mirror which I do not use. Two companies make 7" versions that double as monitors for a rear view camera.

I have the rear view mirror in the tailgate of my 2011 truck and it is also seldom used. Most of the time the camera tries to compensate for the sky and so the foreground is too dark to be usable. And when the tailgate is down it is completely worthless or when I have a camper in the bed.

I would rather have a camera in the license plate area that had a sun shield but then I would need the GM clips from the harness and GM will only sell the complete harness for $400. Same harness from Ford is $17 - think GM is more than a little greedy?

for 2011 and prior you will need the harness to make it fit

I just upgraded the radio in my 2012 Silverado to the factory 2012 navigation system from OEM auto parts. My truck has On Star and Bose. It work very well and the sound quality is much better that the stock radio.

I have 2 questions about its operation that I need help with.
1) When “Voice Guidance” comes on it does not mute the radio. Is the way it is suppose to work? I have not found a setting for this.
2) When I bring up the “HDD Music Menu” It does not have a “Folders/Playlist” option shown in the Navigation manual . It does have the option on the “USB Music Menu”. Is this option on your systems?

Any help will be appreciated.
