Default Thinking of buying a 2012 suburban LS - any warnings?

How are the 2012 suburbans ? I have an 07 Suburban and it has been the worst vehicle I ever owned. Burned oil and had other issues. I'm thinking of buying a 2012 with 53000 miles on it. Cloth interior. Any major issues with these? Thanks in advance for the help. Chris

If it's a half ton with the 5.3, my opinion is that it's a crapshoot. Notice the two GMT900 trucks in my sig that DON'T have the 5.3.....

The only difference between the two years would be that any major issues found with the 2007 through 2011 would hopefully have been corrected. Both are the same platform still.

The burning oil issue should be mostly rectified by 2012.

The iron block is not supposed to exhibit the oil consumption issue. It has something to do with engine speed before the afm valve opens. The aluminum block is the one with all the oil consumption issues.

We love our 2007 even though it has had more minor issues than all of the other cars I've ever owned over the last 25 years.

I'm at 204,000 miles now. I did have to rebuild the trans at 202,000 miles due to a broken forward sprag caused by a bad pressure switch manifold.

Default LS

Didn't the LS have a 4.8 at some point?

I thought the LT was much more common.

It was an option my 2007 LS has the 5.3l v8 In it...by the way in m town the LS is way more common than LTZ OR LT. I have been thinking about trading mines in for a 2015 LTZ they have one at the dealer where I purchased my truck from.

No Suburban ever had the 4.8 (at least the GMT800/900 trucks, not sure about the 400s).

All half-ton Burbs get the 5.3. The 4.8 is Tahoe only.

I think AFM sucks. I will never own an AFM truck. My '01 5.3 is one of the best engines GM ever built. Why they had to screw it up in '07 with AFM, I'll never know. Oh, wait, I do know....government CAFE regs.....

I think the LS suburban had the option to get a 4.8l and at 1 point there was a 6.0l.

No, there wasn't. From 2000-2016, no Suburban ever had an available 4.8. Period.

The 6.0 (and 8.1 from 2000-2006) were available in the 3/4-ton trucks.

Which is why I said all HALF-TON Suburbans got the 5.3.

ETA: To the nitpickers - yes, the half ton Yukon XL Denalis get the 6.0 (00-06) or 6.2 (07+).

Let me rephrase that the Tahoe and suburban did offer a 6.2l v8 on 2 wheel drive models and they started that in 2008 models and above 380 hp and 417 lb-ft

Default Tahoe

The Tahoe LS had a 4.8 at one point, the Suburban never did I think is the clarification.

Also, in 09 My Tahoe had a 6.2L $1,000 option. I didn't take it. Maybe I should have... lol.

My wife drives it now, and no, she doesn't need a 6.2L.
