Default Tie-rod not taking grease...

My drivers side tierod, the only one I have not replaced is not taking grease real easy. I had to really push hard on the grease gun tip and pump hard to get grease into it. About 1/2 of what I pumped out of the gun went into the rod, and the other 1/2 onto my hand. I cleaned the zert, cleaned in the zerk hole, swapped zerks with another one, and that did not help. Is my tierod collapsing in there to where there is no clearance anymore to even get grease in it? I only got grease into it after I turned the wheels slightly. I dont know what gave me that idea, but that helped.
