Default Trailer Adapter 2012 2500hd???

Does anybody know why a standard 7-pin to 4-pin universal trailer adapter doesn't work in my 2012 Silverado 2500hd? The truck is equipped with electronic trailer braking system, however the trailer does not have electronic brakes because it's merely used for an ATV. When i plug the adapter into the truck's harness it lights up showing that there's power going to the adapter, however when i then plugged the trailer into the adapter...no trailer lights. i checked the adapter with my 06' Silverado witht the trailer attached and it worked fine...anybody...anybody...Bueller... i spoke with a mechanic at Farm and Fleet because the local Chevy dealer was useless and his theory stated i may need to have a power converter installed in the truck because everything is now controlled by the on board computer....someone help please!!!!

never seen a 2500hd need a power convertor. the truck comes factory with a towing package.

Not sure, but you may need to connect some factory wiring at the ubec studs and insert a j-case fuse.

test for power at the 7 pin connector at the pins you need powered ie turn, park light, brake. the connector cover is labelled with a schematic.

had a look at a 2011 wiring diagram. it should power the brakes, signals, park and b/u lights with no additonal set-up. The ubec fuse and power studs hook-up are only required for auxillary trailer power or electric brake power.

If your not getting power at the 7 pin connector pins; check these fuses in the under hood fuse block...trlr bck/up, trlr/prk, trlr stop lt, trlr stop rt.
