Default Transmission "slam"???

Hi, I'm new to the forum so please go easy on me.
I have read alot of the post's about transmission problems but my2001 Z71does something slightly different to the other prob's posted.
When I pull away from a standstill the transmission seems to "slip" slightly and then slam forward. It's a weird sensation which feels like something heavy rollling from the front of the bed to the back and hitting the tailgate (obviously it's not that as the bed is empty).sometimes it does it as you move off and other times it happens after you have gone a few yards and is accompanied by a squeak. If I pull off really gently it doesn't do it so much. The truck shifts smoothly through all the gears and there isn't any strange noises or vibrations.
Any ideas or help is appreciated as I am in the UK so no dealers.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum!!! Sounds like you need to check your u-joints, they may be worn. How many miles/kilometers are on the truck?

Hi, The Truck has done 108,000 miles,
I can't see or feel any wear or play in the joints but I know this doesn't mean they are ok.Would the u-joints cause the problem? I have rebuilt and off-roaded lots of Landrovers for the past 10 years and have never had symptoms like this from the u-joints.
It feels really strange

If there is no light then there is pobably no code, unless the bulb is burned out.

sounds like the fluid might be a bit low.....trans would slip untill the fluid gets flowing then puts it into 1 gear while at a high rpm causing it to slam into gear

temp doesn't really matter....start the truck, pull the dipstick, clean it off, then put it back in all the way, remove and read
