Default Transmission Replacement - Need advice please. 97 C1500 2WD Auto

I've done only one replacement years back on my Bronco, manual tranny and have a garage with all the tools needed to get the job done. And I have the GM service manual.

With all the other issues I'm having with this truck it's starting to drain
me financially, therefore I'm considering doing this myself.

Do anyone have an tips (all kidding aside) to offer, things I should look out
for and expect?

I would think about the converter,if the new one doesnt come with one. You might have a conv. full of pieces that will go in to the new trans. I would also blow out the cooler lines.

new converter and new motor mount and use an external oil cooler and bypass the radiator.

I've heard on some years the tranny goes because of plastic sleeves that wear out. You might want to consider a custom rebuild from a non dealer shop that can put in metal replacements that last longer. That is if your model year has the same issue.

Thanks for all the replies and I have some interesting results to share.

With my transmission slipping 2nd gear consistently and occassional high
idle/rpm issues here and there, I was certain it was the transmission. In
fact I had 4 shops diagnose it over the phone and assure it needed to be
dropped and rebuilt A 5th shop actually drove it, tested it and quoted
me 1200 for the rebuilt.

This was on Thursday and I was about to take my truck in the following
day. On the way home another error code popped up so I had Autozone
scan it. The error indicated TPS which I suspected was an issue anyway.
So, I paid the $30 and swapped it Thursday evening.

FIXED ALL MY ISSUES, TRANS AND IDLE!!! Image that. I drove it around
daily to test and confirm before posted results on here...

It was the damn Throttle Position Sensor all along...
