Best case scenario-your linkage cable might have broke or un-hooked.
Worst case-your trannie is baked.

Manual shift transfer case? If so, you've bumped 'er up into neutral. Been on many a service call on this "problem".

Put the emergency brake on, have someone move the shift lever while you crawl under the truck to see if the shift lever is moving.

I was talking to a friend tonite who had a similar problem.
He said he drove home ,shut the truck off and went inside.
Came out a few minutes later , started the truck and put her into drive and nothing.
He trouble shot it for about an hour and found out the transmission filter fell off inside the pan. When the truck was running it was fine but once he shut it off the vacuum from the pump stopped and the filter fell down to the bottom of the pan.
He popped of the pan and sure enough the filter was just floating around,so he replaced it ,put the pan back on and topped up the fluid and it worked fine.

Yes, if someone had prior installed the wrong filter.

This is what i was thinking too but the filter was never changed only the trannie flushed.
The guy that it happened to is a heavy duty mechanic and that is why he came to this assumption.
