Question Truck Wouldn't Start...

Craziest thing happened to me today. Maybe someone can help me out here.

I went out for a few errands today and when I got home my truck shut down. It was weird because I was trying to lock it with my key remote, but it wouldn't work. I figured it went bad, but I was curious and went to try and turn on the ignition. It wouldn't start, nothing. No lights, no dashboard, or anything. I opened the hood to check the battery, but it had no problems. (I recently purchased a new battery by the way.)

I then went to start the ignition, it started without a problem. I took it out again about 15 min afterwards, went down the street and back with no issues.

Does anyone know what could have been the cause of this? Usually when I've had a dead/low life battery, at least some of the lights turned on, however nothing was working on mine as if the whole thing shut down. It's working perfectly now, but I'm just concerned.

Appreciate any feedback, thanks in advance!

Have you had the voltage regulator checked?

This may not help but ….

I have had this happen twice now - last year and now today.

Last year it was a very cold and the battery was old - truck would not turn over - so I replaced it and all was good until today.

I blame myself for what had happened but read on.
We have had a cold snap where I live recently. However 2 days ago the last time I drove my truck when I shut it down and was grabbing my phone to exit I heard a continual whirrrr then buzzzing sound. It wasn’t stopping
i thought I was crazy so sat and listened in the dark in the cold and figured it would stop - maybe the seat moving back to settings I had no clue.

Long story short - didn’t stop I restarted my truck with no issues. Turned the key off and sat there - same continual whirrr / buzz noise.

I realized it was coming from my CD player ! This is an original Gm radio cd player that came with the truck. I have not used the cd player for at least 5 years. There is no cd in the player I double checked and pressed eject multiple times to make sure.

Here is where I blame myself and rightfully so. I was getting cold - and my truck had been starting / running fine - had not noticed lights flickering or dimming so / I assumed this would eventually stop.
I exited the my truck - locked it and hoped for the best. Bad idea / dumb thinking - I know ……

Today truck will not unlock / start / lock with key fob. I unlocked my truck manually and attempted to start from inside - will not turn over.

So yes, my fault. I am now removing the fuse for the radio and charging my battery.

Assumed with the cold snap this week it was that but battery is year old !!! …. Until I remembered the sound and heard 2 days ago.
