Hi all,

I'm finally back in the states after some time over seas. its finally time to work on this old truck sitting in my garage. I have on simple question for you all. I currently have a '95 1500 2x4 extended cab, stepside bed. It is an automatic. The engine is good, the transmission is shot.

Since I would like a 4x4 truck, I put a post out on craigslist seeing if anyone had an old 4x4 model with a blown engine that I could just swap mine into. A guy got back to me and said he has a '96 1500 Z71 4x4, extended cab, short bed. BUT it has a 5spd and the V6. I was wondering if my 350 would bolt on all nice like. I know I would need to swap computers and maybe the wiring harness, but its the bolt on part i'm worried about.

In doing a little more research on here it seems the manual transmission is not built well for towing. if i could match the two up would I be putting too much of a load on a manual by pulling a decent sized trailer?

 

If I remember right, the '95 has throttle body injection, and the '96 has

Sequential Port Fuel Injection.

Changing engine size and fuel inj. type would be a headache .

 

yes it will be a challenge, but the 350 will bolt directly onto the trans, don't forget the pilot bearing. as far as fuelling it, not a problem, if you can read scheamatics. if you do this let me know I will get you in touch with the man in the know!

 

p.s. put a NV4500 5 speed in there if it dosent already, the junk getrag is all alum, the NV4500 has a cast iron main case and alum OD case check it out!!

 

that sounds good to me. I imagine I'll have to pick up a stronger clutch so the 350 doesn't tear it up.

the main issue with the "Rag" is no one services them, they have a vent tube that is connected to the intake manifold to evacuate the "fumes" which is really is the gear oil suspended in the air. so if you are sucking the "fumes" out you are really sucking the oil out of the trans'. and how long can it be expected to run with out oil? I would say run the "rag" keep an eye on it, like check it, say, every time you change motor oil, and run it until it dies. in the mean time be gathering up the nv4500 and parts to minimize your down time. just my 9 cents -- inflation ya know LOL
