Default yellow engine light 2009 Sierra

I know this is a GMC but maybe you all can lead us in the right direction.
My buddy has a 2009 Sierra 39(ish)K and yellow/engine light came on, solid for no appearent reason. You all know of any quick checks he can look for before he takes it in for a check up?
Thanks for the input!

yeah, have it scanned for codes at autozone or any place that does it for free. Might be something simple that you can fix yourself.

WOW!
So buddy takes it to the stealership and find a P0449 code. The vent valve solenoid needed to be replaced b/c it was stuck open. The truck has 38K on it and the warrenty ran out at 36K. So $80 for the part and and a nice round $250 for the labor. Needles to say he was not happy at all! He is considering on tradining it in but we will see.

That part is covered under the federal emissions warranty. They must replace it for free. They rely on the fact that people do not know about it. Provided you live in the US.

We poured over the info you provided, MDTAHOE but we did not see where that solenoid was covered. Can you help us find that particular part?
OT: Where in Maryland are you? I live in AA county and work in PG. Small world!

It may not actually be covered I have never read it completely. If they say no then it probably not covered. I have seen them replace many converters though. I live in Bowie and work in Lanham/Seabrook. Both in PG. I grew up in AA
