I've been reading about problems people are having with the yoke splines sticking and causing clunking in the drive line. Apparently there is a special lube that will solve the problem.

Does anyone know of a product I can use to fix this myself? I can't trust (or afford) my dealer and would like to do it myself, it's such a simple job.

Certain driveshafts are greaseable, have zirk fittings and everything. All you use is standard front-end grease. See your repair manual. I wholly agree with trusting no one but yourself to maintenance your truck, if you do, you save money.( sometimes) More importantly, you have peace of mind from the certainty that a job was done properly. Flat-rate mechanics get a set payment for a job if it takes six-minutes or six hours, and a lot of them are real butchers.

 

I don't think there is a zerk for the spline that Dave is asking about, I had the same issue on my 97 Tahoe and the dealer pulled the drive shaft and lubed the splines. It worked for several months and then did it again and I just lived with it for the remaining 11 years... I would think that any heavy grease would do....

 

There is no grease zerk, but the splines are bathed in the trans fluid. Whatever special grease they've come up with, it probably can't be affected by the trans fluid. And probably won't mess up the trans either. Any Chevy mechanics out there that know what the "special lube" is?
