2006 aveo ls can't shift from park and key stuck in ignition.
Very simply put, it's an additional solenoid switch which has NOTHING TO DO
with the standard starter solenoid.
It's designed so you can't shift with the ignition off.(who does anyway?)
It doesn't sound like you have the problem this thread is addressing, or it
would be clearer.
This particular lockout solenoid is between the ignition key cylinder and the
"Park" selection of an automatic shifter. The slightest misalignment, and you
can't remove your keys from the ignition.

Finally, i had my daughter's car fixed (problem with stuck up shifting lever). The problem was not actually the solenoid switch, it's the stop light switch having 4 terminals. The first 2 terminals is for the stop light itself and the remaining 2 is for the brake system connecting to transmission ignition interlock solenoid. Since there was no available stop light switch at the moment, my techinician just connected jump over wire to bypass the switch and it's working just fine..... good thing i did not order the solenoid switch from the dealer.....
the connection is that when the car is stuck like it is, it thinks it isn't in park, so you can't turn it off and remove the key. i disconnected the battery, and was able to get the key out just fine.
i am a shop and found that the shift solenoid is bad and i am trying to locate one the part number is 96549376 but no parts house can find it. i called my local dealer and they told me that part number is no good? i went online and found it for 12.60 but will take weeks to get it. so i am wondering if you can help me please? thank you Kalo Repair - John
I noticed a lot of people have been having this problem. My granddaughter's car did this suddenly one night. We used the shift release to get the car in drive to get it home, but found that many of the cars features (wipers, power windows, keyless entry, even the instrument panel lights) did not work properly. After change the fuse panel and chasing this thing around for a couple days we found that the door stop on the drivers door was broken and was pinching the wires inside the door for the door lock. The wires were shorting out and causing electrical problems. Repair the door stop rod and put in new wiring harness problem solved.
