Exclamation 2007 Aveo - Worn out key?

Let me start off by saying I LOVE my Aveo! I bought it used seven months ago and this is the first issue I've had.

Yesterday I went to leave work and when I tried to unlock my car using the button on my key, it didn't work which is unusual.

When I got into the car and started it, I tried to put it into drive but the button on the shifter would not go down and let me shift. I noticed the dashboard dials were not working and my odometer was blank, so was the radio and my power windows would not work either!

When I turned the car off and started it again it did the same thing.

I then tried to take the key out but now it's stuck in the ignition! I tried moving my steering wheel but that doesn't work. It's stuck...

Today someone was able to shift my car into drive by using a letter opener and holding down the release button on my shifter. So at least I can drive it home without a tow...

Someone told me it's because the key is worn out and the curves aren't hitting the sensors right so the dashboard and the rest of the car isn't registering properly...

Does that sound right???? Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

I would first start by checking all the fuses. Don't know about getting the key out but the other stuff could very well be a blown fuse.
